Video and Video Game Opportunity
A Little bit about me:
I came to faith in 1988. Believe me, to start with, I am nothing special, but the Lord keeps using me in unique ways. God can do amazing things through people that are “NOT” according to the world’s standards. I am writing these things for a reason, because once again the Lord is calling me to continue in the next step of this journey, he has set me upon. Maybe the Lord is calling some of you to join me. Let me describe where he brought me, and where he is calling me to go know.
From CNC Machine Programmer to Book, Movie and now Video Game
To begin with, I am not in this field, I am a Mastercam Product Specialist (CAD-CAM), and I owned my own Engineering Company for the last 22 years and just sold it. In 2009, God called me to write a book about Heaven called, “Heaven: The Adventure Begins” and I fought him through the whole process, but by His grace and the Spirits leading, I finished the book around 2012. I am not a writer but a Machinist/ programmer, but he used the work he did in my life, to reflect the glories of himself and His kingdom. From there he led me to be a part owner in a Publishing Company. I believe this was used to help produced a Feature Film made in Hollywood Called “Heaven”, and it was released in 2020. It has now reached a worldwide audience. I also own another company called Heaven Media Group that I have not done anything with yet.
From Movie to Special Effects & Video Game Development
For some reason I found great interest in special effects and started using all the Adobe Products for about 5 years. I fought this continually also, saying, “Why am I wasting my time and spending money on stuff I will never use. But he kept pushing me to move forward and I complained all the way. Next, he got me info gaming software (Epic and then Unity) to make 3D terrain. For years I used it and said, “why am I doing all this stuff, I am never going to use it but still I continued by His prompting”, still wondering what is the point? I enjoy all these things, but could not see a purpose because I could not figure out how I was going to apply it. Then He sent someone into my life who seemed to join everything together a couple of days ago.
One major thing that is worth pointing out is my whole life since 2009 has been wrapped around the glories of Heaven through the scriptures. I read Randy Alcorn’s book, “Heaven” and created study guides, videos and taught at men’s groups at other churches about Heaven. So, the Lord is always bringing this subject of Heaven to the forefront of my life.
So, back to that man who spoke into my life a few days. I was telling him about Heaven and how the church seems not to be excited about this subject. I also mentioned all the stuff I have been involved with and how in some areas, I feel like I am wasting my time. He said to me, “I think the Lord wants you to do this, “Create excitement about Heaven through a game and story combined. You can then teach about Heaven as the story threads through the game. He mentioned I could set up quests and make it like a game. What he said hit home. He said, “all the stuff you learned can be used to help set direction of the story, and the game, and then you can also understand what is involved. It was not a waste of time, but preparation. Then he laid out some steps that I should consider, such as this call to a group.
Making a Video Game
So, I want to make a video game and story about Heaven.
This is the premise. We know a lot about Heaven from scripture and observation of the current Heaven and Earth. We know He will redeem the current Heaven and Earth, with fire and make it into the new Heaven and Earth. Sort of like Noah, he destroyed the earth with water, and he brought it forth again. This is lines up with Romans 8, since the creation is waiting to be liberated from its decay and bondages. We need to consider how this current creation would look if the fall did not happen or is removed. We know it is distorted, sort of like Adam and Us, we still have the imprint of God design stamped upon our lives and so will creation. Now back to the game concept.
One person can make Mountains on the New Earth called, Emmanuel’s Mountains, another can make the wall around the city, another could make the River of Life. another can consider how to make AI of biblical characters such as Moses, Peter, John, Paul, etc. and other people throughout the centuries that can interact with the game. Another person could consider worship, and another consider how the Lord can speak into other people lives through this. It is also a way to bring believers together through the Oculus Quest and other plat forms. I have a lot more ideas on how to move forward, but I should stop here to see the response. Some will like the idea and others will not and that is okay.
I will leave you with this. We are called to focus on things above (plural) where Christ is seated. Let’s combat the world’s view that Heaven, that it is an endless church service and or we float on clouds playing harps. Let’s paint a picture of Heaven that creates excitement about Heaven. How can we share the gospel, if we never bring our eternal home into light. If a new believer asked you about Heaven, what would you say. Could you get him excited and have a desire to be with Christ Jesus and His Kingdom, which is better by far than our current home.
